Residential Services
Team members administer medications, transport, and ensure the preparation of healthy meals. They assist the person served with personal care and medical appointments as needed, teach new independent living skills and meet other individual needs as planned. These necessities of life must be met but equally important is that each person feels honored as an individual and that they have choice in how they spend their time. Just like all humans, each is on a quest to find what is important to them!
All people want to contribute, and all want to be in relationships with others! All want autonomy and to have their voices (or other means of communication) heard and respected. Sometimes, we all also need help in determining possible outcomes of a variety of choices so that we may make informed decisions.
Our group homes serve as an attractive and comfortable place to live with support given while learning independent living skills.
After fine-tuning skills in the areas of safety, emergency preparedness, cooking, cleaning, laundry, pursuit of leisure interest, socialization, health management and self-advocating, some persons served are able to move to independent living (such as to an apartment).
For others, the group home is home base to living your best life. While learning independent living skills is of the utmost importance, so is having a key to your own bedroom, making friends and being an active member of their community.
date night…
Meet Scott and Patricia!
Anything else you'd like to share about your experience living at IMPACT?
Scott: I'm fortunate that there was a space for me at the group home when I had to move. I'm glad that I didn't have to move away from my friends. (Scott lived in the apartment program for 30 years prior to moving into the group home).
Patricia: I love living at the group home.
During a recent date, Scott and Patricia were interviewed about their life at IMPACT…
What are some of your favorite things about living at IMPACT?
Scott: I love the staff. They take care of my needs. The staff treat me like I'm a human being. I feel like I can talk to them and they value my privacy. I know that I can come to DeeAnna or Julie, if I have any concerns.
Patricia: I like having my room so that I can have privacy. I know that I can talk to the staff, like Robin or Toni, if I have a problem.
What are your favorite activities to do at IMPACT?
Scott: I love going to church. I wish I could go 7 days a week! I really like Special Olympics bowling. Katie is wonderful! I appreciate that the staff take us to bowling.
Patricia: I like going to church and going shopping. I'm glad the staff take me where I need to go.
